Personal branding is the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands. While previous self-help management techniques were about self-improvement, the personal-branding concept suggests instead that success comes from self-packaging.The term is thought to have been first used and discussed in a 1997 article by Tom Peters.
Personal branding is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or impression in the mind of others about an individual, group, or organization.Personal branding often involves the application of one’s name to various products. For example, the celebrity real-estate mogul turned President of the United States, Donald Trump uses his last name extensively on his buildings and on the products he endorses. (e.g. Trump Tower). In Be Your Own Brand first published in 1999, marketers David McNally and Karl Speak define personal brand this way: “Your brand is a perception or emotion, maintained by somebody other than you, that describes the total experience of having a relationship with you.”
Basically a brand is a promise that you make to other and are known for keeping it to who you are asking or trying to influence.
No matter if you’re a business owner or someone that has a job,you need to get your message heard.50% of our total time in our life are spent on social media. If you are not producing contents in 2019 you’re literally irrelevant on the Internet.
The reality here is that Internet has given us a equal playing field to scale and I believe that building a audience will continue to get harder with time just like how Google ads was a couple cents a click back in the days because our attention is getting shorter thus it gets more expensive.
Regardless what professional your in, we human beings seek for social proof when it comes to having trusts in someone that we’re not familiar with.In the old days,it was through word of mouth and it’s still the same but now with internet. When we go out and eat,we look at the restaurant’s yelp rating, when you find out that cute girl’s name in your school you look it up on Facebook. We seek social proof for everything even when you don’t recognize.Being on Facebook,Instagram,Linkedin and other platforms helps other people to understand what you’re about .Having a long record on these social platform can provide credibility via on what you stand for.
As technology gets better and better the internet is also getting more transparent each year.I genuinely think you should be as truthful as you can on the internet,it only takes one false claim to lose all the credibility.
Connecting With Other People
Meeting someone new across the global has never been this easy.People can discover you through a single hashtag on Instagram or connect with you from a mutual friend on Facebook. If you’re not producing content in written words, through image, audio or video on social media in 2019 you are missing out.I think most of us including myself doesn’t truly know the value of having a personal brand because if we did we would put personal branding at the top of our priority list.
Getting in touch with famous people isn’t as hard as it seem. You just have to make content that you’re passion about and be yourself as cliche as it sounds its really that simple. With time you will have enough impact to call Michael Jordan on the weekend and Skype with Chris Brown.See while I was making this blog post Patrick Bet David saw one of my post and like it and it was a pretty awesome moment because I read his content all the time.
It’s An Asset
Now most people have a steady job and doesn’t see the benefit of having a personal brand or the need to have one but have you thought what if you get fire tomorrow and no one will ever hire you for some reason.
People buy real estate because it can generate passive income for them.A personal brand is 100 times better than real estate because you can control the value, what it stand for and all the variables.Supreme can sell some bum @ss brick for $200 and Gucci belt can go for 50K just because they put the label Gucci on it.
I think most of us just stuck our head in the mud and build other people’s business/brand meanwhile we forget to build our own.I understand some of us need to have a job to get by or to get an education but I don’t believe the fact that you can’t spend 15-30 minute a day making content through image, audio, written words or video on anything that you’re passion about. I challenge you to start building your own personal brand and start now,tag me on Instagram I want to be the first person to follow you.
